Bhubaneswar: A day after Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’ was announced as India’s official entry to Oscars 2025, the makers of ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ claimed that the Randeep Hooda-starrer was nominated for the 97th Academy Awards.
The confusion was cleared by Film Federation Of India (FFI) president Ravi Kottarakara on Friday.
He said that only one film can be nominated by a country for the Academy Awards, reiterating that ‘Laapataa Ladies’ is the official Oscar entry, reported India Today Digital.
The FFI chief stated that he, too, had read about the biopic drama on Savarkar being an Oscar nomination in the media.
The makers of ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ had posted a message stating that the film was “officially submitted for the Oscars.” They even thanked the FFI for the “remarkable appreciation.”
Directed and co-produced by Hooda, ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ revolves around the life of politician-cum-activist Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
Even as there was mixed response for the film, Hooda’s performance was widely appreciated.
