Fact Check: Is Kerala’s First BJP MP Suresh Gopi Quitting Narendra Modi 3.0 Cabinet?

New Delhi: Less than 24 hours after being sworn in as a Minister of State in the Narendra Modi 3.0 Cabinet, there was a buzz that actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi would resign.

The 65-year-old Gopi made history by winning the Lok Sabha election from Thrissur to become the first BJP MP from Kerala.

Speculation was rife following his remarks to mediapersons late on Sunday that he hoped to be relieved of his post soon as he wanted to do more films.

Some media reports suggested he was not happy to be a Minister of State.

However, Gopi took to social media to refute those reports.

“A few media platforms are spreading the incorrect news that I am going to resign from the Council of Ministers of the Modi Government. This is grossly incorrect. Under the leadership of PM @narendramodi Ji we are committed to the development and prosperity of Kerala,” the newly-elected Thrissur Lok Sabha MP posted on his X handle along with a picture of himself and Narendra Modi.

Gopi, a leading Malayalam film actor, beat LDF candidate VK Sunilkumar of CPI by a margin of 74,686 votes.

Besides Gopi himself, Kerala BJP President K Surendran also dismissed it as “fake news”.
