Lucknow: Rinku Singh, who made headlines after smashing five back-to-back sixes to snatch an improbable win for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the 2023 IPL, was again in the news on Friday.
Not for his cricketing exploits this time, though.
Internet was abuzz with reports that the explosive left-handed batter will be getting engaged to Priya Saroj, a Samajwadi Party MP.
Rinku, 27, is a regular member of the Indian T20 International team, having played 30 matches in the shortest format and also 2 ODIs. His next assignment is the five-match series against England, which starts at Eden Gardens on January 22.
The 26-year-old Priya is a lawyer, and also one of the youngest Lok Sabha MPs who defeated her BJP rival to get elected from Machhlishahr constituency last year.
Both being from Uttar Pradesh, young in age and known in their respective fields, netizens liked the ‘match’.
Priya’s father Tufani Saroj – a three-time MP and current MLA – denied the news of their engagement.
However, there is a possibility of match-making.
Saroj told ABP News that Rinku’s family has spoken to his elder son-in-law, who is a CJM in Aligarh, about a marriage proposal. And Priya’s family is considering the proposal seriously.
Neither Rinku nor Priya has confirmed or denied the news.
Priya wanted to become a judge, rather than joining politics like her father.
“Though my father is a seasoned politician and has won Lok Sabha polls consistently between 1999 and 2014, I never thought of becoming a politician while growing up. After graduating in law, I started preparing for judgeship exams during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even when my ticket was announced, I was taking online classes for the exams,” Priya told The Indian Express after winning the election last year.
