Fact Check: Was Donald Trump Hit By Glass Fragments, Not A Bullet?
New Delhi: India woke up on Sunday to the spine-chilling news of Donald Trump being shot at during an election rally in the state of Pennsylvania.
The former US President, reported to be safe and recuperating in a medical centre, said that he was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of his right ear.
“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong when I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realised then what was happening,” the 78-year-old Trump, who is running for a second term, wrote on social media.
However, conflicting reports have emerged about the incident.
Even as the theory of the attack being an assassination attempt gained ground, Raw Story reported quoting law enforcement officials that Trump was hit by a glass shards or fragments, not a bullet.
Reports in Newsmax and Axios suggested that Trump was struck by glass pieces, possibly from the teleprompter that broke due to the gunfire.
As an official statement is awaited, but such discrepancies have fuelled conspiracy theories.
Trump’s haters had no doubt that the attack was pre-planned.
Some social media users said the event was a staged ‘photo op’ to garner sympathy and votes for the November 5 election.
President Joe Biden condemned the attack as ‘sick,’ stating that there’s no place for this kind of violence in America.
