Washington: A fourth jab of the COVID-19 vaccine may be needed as a further booster dose in the fight against the Omicron variant.
That is what USA’s Chief Medical advisor Antony Fauci feels. He said that the booster could be based on age or other conditions of the beneficiary, ANI reported.
“There may be the need for yet again another boost — in this case, a fourth-dose boost for an individual receiving the mRNA — that could be based on age, as well as underlying conditions,” Dr Fauci said at a White House briefing on Wednesday (local time).
Dr Fauci, head of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was responding to a question on data showing the need for a fourth shot of the vaccine.
Saying that the issue that is being followed very closely, Dr Fauci said: “The data is from trials conducted on children from six months to 24 months, as well as those from 21 months to — up to the end of four years by the pharmaceutical company, in this case, Pfizer.”
Israel has already started a second booster jab for healthcare workers and over-60 section population.
The World Health Organization observed two days ago that the US has reported around 1,00,000 deaths since Omicron was declared a ‘variant of concern’ in the United States.
