Fake Currency Note Racket Busted; Woman Among 2 Arrested In Odisha’s Balasore
Balasore: Two persons including a woman were arrested on Saturday for allegedly circulating fake currency notes in Odisha’s Balasore district.
The man has been identified as Purnachandra Nayak (60) from Nayapatana village of Santaragadia under Nilagiri police limits and the woman as Binapani Mukhi (50) from Saharpur village of Khaira area, according to Balasore SP Sagarika Nath.
Purnachandra had purchased foreign liquor from a shop on August 22 by paying him Rs 3,000 fake currency notes. When the shopkeeper came to know that the six notes of Rs 500 denomination were fake currencies, he lodged a complaint with the police. The accused had also purchased some other items from the market by paying fake notes, police said.
During the investigation, a police team led by Nilagiri SDPO and Inspector-in-charge (IIC) of the local PS apprehended the man, who confessed that the woman from Soro and one more accused from Jajpur district had provided fake currency notes to him for business purpose.
Based on this information, Binapani was also apprehended and efforts are on to apprehend the main accused from Jajpur, the SP said.
Police also seized fake notes of Rs 32,700 face value (47 notes in the denomination of Rs 100, 45 notes in the denomination of Rs 200, 38 numbers in Rs 500). They also seized two mobile phones from the accused.
