Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested a fake Naval officer for alleged sexual exploitation of a woman on pretext of marriage in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, the victim’s father had opened the profile of his daughter in a matrimonial site some time. The accused, identified as Saumya Ranjan Mishra of Patipur near Sompur under Biridi police station in Jagatsinghpur district, evinced interest in the girl.
Saumya introduced himself as an officer in Indian Navy posted in Mumbai. After the victim’s parents gave their consent to their marriage, he went to their house and interacted with the family members.
Later, Saumya developed physical relation with the girl and recorded it in his mobile phone camera. Meanwhile the girl’s parents came to know that Saumya was a fraud and snapped the proposed marriage.
Agitated over it, the fake Naval officer called the girl to a hotel in Khandagiri of the city and physically assaulted her. He also took some obscene pictures of the victim and threatened to upload it in social media. Out of fear, the girl gave him Rs 50,000 and requested him not to upload the pictures.
But Saumya sent the obscene pictures of the girl to families of other persons who came with marriage proposal to the girl’s family. This led her parents to file a complaint against Saumya at Mahila police station in Bhubaneswar.
Following investigation, the police arrested Saumya and forwarded him to court on Saturday. They also seized a car, mobile phones and a laptop from possession of Saumya.
