Pune: Ketan Vishal Agarwal (26), had decided to celebrate his fiancée’s birthday with a trip to the Lohagad Fort in Maval tehsil in Maharashtra’s Pune last week.
That turned out to be the last day of his life. He was killed after falling into a deep gorge. The police had initially believed that Agarwal fell from the height while clicking photographs.
In a bizarre turn of events, authorities have now detained his fiancée and a friend on charges of pushing him into the gorge. This incident bears strong resemblance to the Raja Raghuvanshi case of May 2025, when an Indore businessman fell to his death in Meghalaya during his honeymoon.
His wife Sonam Raghuvanshi and others were later arrested for their alleged role in pushing him into the gorge.
Agarwal, a resident of Gahunje near Pune city, and director in his family’s real estate firm, was set to get married in November this year. His family had planned a grand destination wedding in Rajasthan.
On June 19, he went to the Lohagad fort with his fiancée and two close friends to celebrate the birthday of his to-be bride, PTI reported.
Agarwal apparently lost his balance near a cliff amid fierce winds. He slipped while taking photographs around 10.30 am and plunged nearly 400 feet into a valley, it was initially believed.
Members of the Shivdurg Mitra Emergency Rescue Team and cops conducted a three-hour rescue operation and retrieved Agarwal’s body from the difficult terrain, Inspector Dinesh Tayde of the Lonavala Rural police station had said.
The police had initially registered a case of accidental death and launched a probe into the incident, sending the 26-year-old’s body for a post-mortem.
Officials, on Tuesday, revealed a major twist in Agarwal’s death case, saying that his fiancée and her male friend had allegedly pushed him into the deep gorge in Pune and presented it as an accidental fall, as reported by Hindustan Times.
The two have now been detained and questioned, the police said. They are now investigating the incident as a murder case. However, no other information was provided.
