Families Oppose, Police Protect Same-Sex Couple In Odisha
Jajpur: Police have provided security to a same-sex couple in Jajpur district after their families reportedly threatened the two with dire consequences if they continued to live together.
According to reports, Subhalaxmi (22) of Rabana village in Jakhapura and Laxmipriya (21) of Chandama in Korei had fallen in love two years ago. The two got married on January 5 this year.
However, their families and relatives opposed their marriage and started threatening them to separate.
Following this, Subhalaxmi and Laxmipriya lodged a complaint at Danagadi police station, stating that their lives are in danger, according to a report in The New Indian Express.
A police official said the two are majors and have married on mutual consent as per the law. “We have provided them security after they approached us for help,” he added.
At present, the two are living at Danagadi in Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex area as Subhalaxmi works as security personnel in the local community health centre.
