Berhampur: Renowned woman cook Una Damayanti, who had extended free service during the 1999 super cyclone, passed away at her residence in Odisha’s Berhampur city at the age of 95 on Thursday, family sources said.
As she had expressed the desire to donate her eyes, her son Ramesh Patro, a member of Friends Helping Club, made arrangements for the collection of eyeballs by doctors from the Eye Bank of MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
Damayanti was famous in cooking and was in that profession for the last 60 years. In 1990, she won appreciation from the Odisha government for her popularity in cooking local food items.
She extended her free service in providing cooked food during the 1999 super cyclone, Aska floods and many other natural disasters.
According to sources, this was the 15th eye donation step this year by Friends Helping Club.
