Balangir: A farmer allegedly committed suicide due to crop loss and debt burden at Barakani in Balangir on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Bhaktabandhu Dandasena.
Sources said Dandasena was depressed after his crops were damaged due to scanty rainfall.
His family claimed that Dandasena consumed poison. Locals took him to a nearby hospital immediately. He was later shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR). But, he died while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of Agricultural Department reached the deceased’s house and started an investigation into the matter.
