Nayagarh: A farmer was electrocuted to death at Sikharpur village under Khandapada block in Nayagarh district on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Panu Bhhat.
According to the sources, the farmer came in contact with a live wire while going to his farmland in the morning. He died on the spot.
Demanding compensation for the bereaved family, hundreds of locals blocked the Nayagarh-Khandapada road by burning tyres. The blockade obstructed vehicular movement on the stretch.
The locals alleged that the negligence of the electricity department led to the death of the farmer.
On getting information, the local police reached the spot and controlled the situation.
