Sikar (Rajasthan): Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait warned on Tuesday that if the Centre doesn’t repeal the three contentious farm laws, the farmers will gherao the parliament in protest.
In an appeal to the farmers, Tikait urged them to be ready as the call for “Delhi march” can be given at any time, reported news agency PTI.
Tikait said this while addressing the Kisan Mahapanchayat of United Kisan Morcha in Sikar, Rajasthan on Tuesday.
“This time the call will be for parliament gherao. We will announce it and then march towards Delhi. This time 40 lakh tractors will be there instead of four lakh tractors,” Tikait was quoted as saying by PTI.
According to Tikait, the protesting farmers would plough the parks close to India Gate and grow crops there. The United Front leaders will take a call on the parliament gherao date, he added.
The leader also said that there was a conspiracy to malign the country’s farmers on Republic Day, January 26 when violence had broken out in New Delhi during their tractor parade.
“The farmers of the country love the tricolor, but not the leaders of this country,” he said.
