Udaipur: Inflated electricity bills have been making the headlines during lockdown period, with consumers of several states complaining that the due amount is much higher far than normal.
Even a farmer in Rajasthan wasn’t spared. He was delivered a bill of Rs 3.71 crore for consuming 38,514,098 units of electricity in two months!
The last date of payment for the bill, which was issued on August 22, was September 3. Pemaram Patel, 22, of Gingla village in Udaipur got the shock of his life on seeing the amount due and rushed to the nearest e-mitra centre of the Rajasthan government.
“When I went to the e-mitra, I found out that the bill was exorbitantly high because of a printing mistake. The actual bill was for Rs 6,414, which I paid then itself,” said the farmer.
It turned out that the person who went to record the meter readings, mistakenly keyed in the meter number in the column for reading. “Correction was done immediately and a new copy of the bill with the correct amount was given to the consumer,” an engineer said.
