Cuttack: Hundreds of farmers staged blocked Cuttack-Pradip road at Jeypore on Thursday seeking immediate release of water into
Taladanda canal.
“Owing to lack of water in the canal, paddy farming has been affected in our locality and farmers belonging to Chhapada, Erdanga, Bidyadharpur and Puruna Basant panchayats under Raghunathpur block in Jagatsinghpur district are the worst sufferers. The local administration paid no heed to our demand despite repeated requests. The water resources department and the district administration must take immediate steps to release water into Taladanda canal and its branches, failing which the agitation will be intensified in the days to come,” one of the agitating farmers said.
Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded due to the blockade.
