Jagatsinghpur: A man and his nine-year-old daughter died after being run over by a speeding truck on Cuttack-Paradip highway in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Raj Kishore Biswal and his daughter Lori Biswal of Sandhapur under the jurisdiction of Kujang police station in the district.
Sources said the mishap took place when the two were returning home from a private school at Paradip in the afternoon.
Biswal and his daughter were run over by a Paradip-bound truck after it hit their motorcycle at Kothiasahi Square near Kujanga. Both reportedly died on the spot.
The incident triggered tension in the area with a large number of angry locals staging a road blockade, causing traffic disruption on the highway.
On being informed, a police team reached the site and recovered the bodies. Senior officials also held talks with the protesters and took steps to pacify them.
