Mumbai: A fatwa has been issued against actor Nora Fatehi in Aligarh over the controversial song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’, for allegedly being against Islamic teachings.
The song from the Kannada film ‘KD: The Devil’, which also features Sanjay Dutt, has stirred a controversy over its objectionable lyrics.
Now, Muslim Personal Darul Ifta in Aligarh has issued a fatwa against Nora and told ANI that the song contains content that they consider ‘objectionable and against Islamic teachings.’
Chief Mufti Maulana Ebrahim Hussain, who issued the fatwa, said he found the visuals of the song ‘explicit and vulgar.’
In an interview with India Today, the chief mufti further said that he found such content haram and a gunah-e-kabira (grave sin), and participation or promotion of such material is against Islamic principles.
Earlier this week, Nora in a video message, explained that she had no role in the Hindi version of the song.
“When I shot this song three years ago, I said yes to it because it was a part of a big film, it was with a big icon, Sanjay Dutt, who would say no to working with him? He’s such an icon. And it was a remake, at least that’s what I thought, of Nayak Nahi Khalnayak Hoon Main, which is also a very iconic song,” she explained.
However, she did admit that when she heard the song in Hindi, she knew that it would spark a controversy.
On Wednesday, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ has been banned because of its controversial lyrics and visuals.
Ever since the release of the song, complaints were filed demanding an FIR and removal of the track from social media platforms.
‘KD The Devil’ stars Dhruva Sarja, Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Ramesh Aravind, Reeshma Nanaiah, and V Ravichandran and is slated to be released on April 30.
