Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended IIC of Dasmantpur police station in Koraput district, Sukma Hansdah, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
According to a Vigilance release, the IIC had demanded the illegal gratification from a relative of an accused, who is lodged in jail, to submit the case diary in the court to allow for his bail. She was the investigating officer in the case.
The relative reported the matter to Vigilance authorities, who laid a trap and nabbed Hansda while she was taking the bribe. The entire amount was recovered from her possession and seized.
Simultaneous searches are currently underway at 2 locations linked to the IIC to ascertain whether she has accumulated assets disproportionate to her known sources of income. A case has been registered against her under Section 7 of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway, it added.
