Bhubaneswar: Odisha FC women made history on March 24 by lifting the Indian Women’s League (IWL) 2023-24, dethroning Gokulam FC.
Their achievement has not gone unnoticed in FIFA, football’s world governing body headquartered in Zurich (Switzerland).
In a letter addressed to All India Football Federation (AIFF) chief Kalyan Chaubey, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has congratulated Odisha FC for their ‘great achievement’.
“By means of this letter, I am pleased to congratulate the new champions of India, Odisha FC Women! Their constant efforts and results throughout the season have paid off, resulting in this important title. Congratulations to each and every member of the team and of the club for this great achievement,” Infantino wrote.
Odisha FC were dominant right through the league, winning 10 games, losing 1 and drawing 1.
The runaway success helped Odisha FC secure a spot in next season’s AFC Women’s Champions League.
