It is pertinent to mention here that Brazil and the United States of America (USA) played out a 1-1 draw in their second group-stage game on Friday. The United States – making four changes from its previous game against India– decided to walk on a different path than it did against India.
In the opening match of the tournament, India lost to the USA by 0-8. The girls were down by five goals in the first half and conceded three more goals in the second. The only positive take from the match for the Indians was that they managed to keep the formidable USA at bay for the last 30 minutes of play.
Notably, the 2023 Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup will be held at the Kalinga Stadium next year. Overall 44 matches will be played with the final slotted on January 29 at the stadium, which also hosted the 2018 World Cup final.
