Bhubaneswar: The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has appointed noted Odia doctor Bibhu Kalyan Nayak as a medical officer for the forthcoming Olympics at Tokyo in Japan scheduled next year.
Apart from Nayak, two doctors from South Africa and Germany have also been appointed as medical officers, the FIH said in a notification.
Nayak is the first Odia to be appointed as a medical officer in the Olympic event.
He was also appointed as the Medical Officer by the FIH for the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar in November 2018 as the first Indian for a World Cup event.
Trained in Sports Traumatology & Sports & Exercise Physiology from the National Institute of Sports Medicine at Havana, Cuba and the National Sports Centre at Madrid in Spain, Nayak had begun his international stint as a team doctor of the Indian Youth Boxing Team for a span of two years in 2007.
