Bhubaneswar: In the FIH Pro League 2024-25 matches on 21 February, Friday, India faced off against Germany in the Women’s FIH Pro League and Ireland in the Men’s FIH Pro League.
It was a day of mixed fortunes for Indian teams in the FIH Pro League at the Kalinga Stadium here on Friday.
The men’s team overcame Ireland 3-1 after the women were outclassed 0-4 by Germany.
Sophia Schwabe led Germany’s charge with two goals to silence a big crowd at the hockey stadium.
But the capacity crowd had their moments when the men took the field later in the evening.
Ireland surprised the home team when Jeremy Duncan scored in the 12th minute. Lifted by the vocal crowd, India came roaring back to score one each in the second, third and fourth quarters through Mandeep Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh and Hardik Singh respectively.
India are fifth in the men’s standings with 9 points from 5 games.
The Indian women are languishing at the bottom, in ninth place, with just 4 points in 5 matches.
