Mumbai: Film producer Sandeep Singh received death threats on Facebook, saying that he will be murdered just like Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.
“He received threats four times — March 17, April 3, May 26 and the latest on July 6. Earlier, he ignored the threats as he was busy shooting for an upcoming project and was out of Mumbai,” an official of Mumbai Police said.
The 40-year-old Sandeep, who earlier worked as CEO of Bhansali Productions, now owns Legends Studios which has produced movies like Mary Kom, Aligarh, Sarabjit, Bhoomi, PM Narendra Modi and Jhund.
Sandeep said he received the threats on his Facebook account from a person named Krishna Singh Rajput.
The threat, in Hindi, reads: “Chinta mat karna Moosewala ko goli mara gaya hai. Usi tarah tujhe bhi goli mara jayega Wait kar aur yaad rakh (Do not worry, Moosewala was shot dead. Just like that you too will be shot. Wait and keep it in mind).”
The producer told police he has no idea why he is being targeted.
Sandeep approached Amboli police station in Jogeshwari (west) and lodged a complaint under Section 506(2) (death threats) of IPC.
Singer-politician Moosewala was shot dead on May 29 in Punjab’s Mansa district.
Gangsters Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi, who is in prison, have claimed responsibility for murdering Moosewala.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, his father Salim and lawyer had earlier received similar threats from unknown persons.
