Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur Is New FTII President

New Delhi: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Tuesday appointed well-known filmmaker Shekhar Kapur as the new president of the Pune-based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society.

Reportedly, the filmmaker has also been appointed as Chairman of the FTII Governing Council.

Kapur’s tenure will be till March 3, 2023, said the FTII Director Bhupendra Kainthola.

The filmmaker will be heading the film institute at a time when colleges and universities are grappling with the challenges during the ongoing pandemic.

Shekhar Kapur has directed films like ‘Mr India’, Elizabeth (1998), Bandit Queen (1994) and The Four Feathers (2002).

Born at Lahore in Pakistan, Kapur is well-known for his work in both Hindi and international cinema.

He has also received several awards for his work including the prestigious Padma Shri in 2000 and the Golden Globe Award in 1998.
