FIR Against Rajamouli Over ‘Hanuman’ Comments At ‘Varanasi’ Event; Filmmaker’s Old Tweet On ‘Ram’ Goes Viral

Hyderabad: Filmmaker SS Rajamouli triggered a controversy over his distasteful comments on Lord Hanuman at the grand ‘Varanasi’ event in Hyderabad.

Upset with the filmmaker’s comments, members of the Rashtriya Vanara Sena lodged an FIR against Rajamouli for hurting religious sentiments.

Amid the ongoing controversy, an old tweet of Rajamouli on Lord Ram and Krishna has gone viral on social media.

The tweet, shared by Rajamouli in 2011, read that he never liked Lord Ram, and preferred Lord Krishna instead.

Sharing screenshots of the filmmaker’s old tweet, critics claimed that he is an aesthetic, while some defended Rajamouli, stating that he had later clarified the context of his tweet.

“But I never liked lord ram. Lord Krishna is my favourite of all the avatars,” Rajamouli wrote.

For the unversed, a technical snag stalled the screening of ‘Varanasi’ glimpses at a grand title-unveiling event held at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad.

Irked with the technical glitches, Rajamouli said while his father Vijayendra Prasad told him that Lord Hanuman will guide him during the event, so this is how the Lord Hanuman was guiding him.

“Naku devudu mida pedda nammakam ledu andi. Nannagaru vachi indaka Hanuma…venakala untadu, nadipistadu ani chepparu.Idi aina ventane kopam vachindi. Idena nadipinchedi ani? (I don’t have much faith in God. My father came earlier and said that Hanuman is guiding me. As soon as this happened, I got angry. Is this how Lord Hanuman is guiding me?)”

His emotional statement quickly went viral, triggering mixed reactions online.

Soon, hashtags calling for a boycott of Rajamouli’s next project started trending, while some argued that his remarks were being blown out of proportion.
