Cuttack: Thanks to quick action by authorities, 17 child patients and their attendants had a narrow escape after a fire broke out at the ICU of Sishu Bhawan in the city on Saturday evening.
The paediatric hospital authorities alerted police and Fire Department personnel and also arranged to evacuate the patients to safety outside.
Police and Fire personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
DCP Prateek Singh said a short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire. “Due to the timely action by authorities, the fire was brought under control before it could spread to other parts of the hospital,” the DCP added.
A senior hospital official said the blaze had triggered a power failure, but it was restored within a few hours.
The hospital has formed two teams, one to probe the cause of the fire and another to check the electric wirings and installations in the hospital, the official informed.
