Bhubaneswar: A fire broke out at Toshali Bhawan in Bhubaneswar’s Satya Nagar area on Thursday, sparking panic among government officials and staff working in the building.
According to sources, the blaze originated in the record room, specifically affecting areas linked to the Lokayukta office, with flames and thick smoke engulfing at least three rooms at around 10 am. “A peon informed us about the fire, following which we broke the glass panes of the windows and sprayed water to contain the fire,” a security guard told the media.
Shortly thereafter, firefighters reached the spot and brought the flames under control. A team from Kharavela Nagar police station also arrived to assess the situation and assist in crowd management. Preliminary investigation points to an electrical short circuit as the likely cause, leading to damage of several important government documents and files stored there.
Incidentally, this has come within 24 hours of a massive fire at a supermarket at Aiginia here, which raged for over 18 hours.
