Bhubaneswar: Passengers of the Bhubaneswar-bound Rajdhani Express had a narrow escape on Friday after the rear coach of the train caught fire between Balasore and Soro stations.
All passengers are safe, an East Coast Railway spokesperson said, adding that the fire was detected in the power car of the train at 12.50pm.
The train was stationed at Khantapada station in Balasore district till reports last came in.
The rear coach or the power-cum-guard car was detached from the train immediately.
The overhead electric wires were switched off for safety reason as the firemen doused the flame. Train operations through the stretch are expected to start soon.
A team of officers from the Kharagpur division will inspect the train before it commences its journey.
Rajdhani express is powered by two power cars at the other two ends of the train rake. The train will leave for Bhubaneswar with one power car now, the spokesperson said.
On May 9, in a similar incident, the rare coach of the Kamakhya-Anand Vihar express had caught fire in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh. No one was injured in the incident.
