Bhubaneswar: To ensure the safety of students, the Odisha government has decided to make fire safety measures mandatory in all educational institutions across the state.
The Home Department has asked 10 departments, including the School and Mass Education, Higher Education, and Skill Development and Technical Education, to initiate appropriate action against educational institutions found flouting the directive of the government.
“According to the Fire Safety Rules, 2019, the departments will instruct their respective academic institutions to keep all fire safety equipment in their respective campus. If any educational institution has no fire safety certificate, the concerned department will take appropriate action,” additional secretary, Home, Parthasarathi Mishra, told the media on Wednesday.
Apart from providing the fire safety certificates, the departments concerned should make regular visits to the academic institutions and inspect the measures in place, said Odisha Abhibhavak Mahasangh co-chairman Prasanna Bisoyee, while welcoming the decision.
