Firearms Smuggling: One Arrested With Three Pistols In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested a 50-year-old man for his alleged involvement in firearms smuggling and seized three country-made pistols from his possession.
Based on a specific input that Sangram Natha, a habitual
arms dealer, will arrive in Bhubaneswar from Howrah on a train, the special squad and Laxmi Sagar police laid a trap in Station Bazar area. The suspect was detained with the arms and ammunition. During the drive, four illegal firearms were seized along with four live and two fired ammunitions. A case was lodged at Laxmi Sagar police station under the Arms Act.
Details of the arms seized is as follows:
1. Two .765mm magazine loaded pistol
2. A 9mm pistol
3. A single-shot pistol
4. 4 rounds of live ammunition of .765 calibre
5, Two empty magazines
6. A fired round each of 9mm and .32 calibre
Sangram was previously involved in another case under Sahid Nagar police station in which six country-made pistols and nine rounds of ammunition were recovered.
Earlier, he was also convicted in an NDPS case.
The accused is a habitual arms dealer who directly procures illegal arms from Munger district in Bihar. He procures the arms for Rs 14,000-15,000 and sells it in the local market for
Rs 30,000-35,000.
Further investigations are on to identify other persons who are involved in the racket. The accused is likely to be in police remand if required.
Acting on specific information about a consignment of illegal country-made pistols, police conducted raids and apprehended the accused, whose identity is yet to be disclosed. Besides three country-made pistols, magazines and live bullets were seized from him, police sources said.
