Berhampur: After police crackdown on illegal cracker business in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, a huge quantity of firecrackers was seized and one person arrested from a village in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday.
Acting on a tip off ahead of Diwali, a police team conducted raids in Nalabanta village under Aska police limits in the district and recovered a huge quantity of firecrackers and materials used in making the crackers from a man, who was arrested.
According to reports, the approximate market value of seized crackers and other materials was estimated at around Rs 45 lakh.
Police also seized a van which was used for delivering the firecrackers in the area, from the accused person’s possession.
A case has been registered against the accused under various sections of the Explosive Substances Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Futther investigation is in progress, sources said.
Earlier in the day, police had seized a huge quantity of firecrackers from a market area in Bhubaneswar, while six persons were arrested for alleged manufacture and sale of firecrackers in Cuttack on Wednesday.
