Berhampur: Police on Saturday seized firecrackers worth Rs 70 lakh from eight mini-trucks during a raid on Nalabanta village in Ganjam district and arrested three persons.
Acting on a tipoff on illegal manufacturing and selling of firecrackers, a team of Sanakhemundi police raided the village and seized huge quantities of kumpi, phuljhari, photoka, charki, mercury torch, jhuri, mathapi, long shot, colour shot, Akashdeep and high-sounding crackers.
Police also seized huge quantities of gunpowder, palm leaves, raw explosives, nitrogen powder, sulfur powder, charcoal and an iron cylinder.
The arrested have been identified as Laba Behera, Jitu Pradhan and Ranjan Pradhan. Police said efforts are on to nab 12 others who managed to escape during the raid.
