Jajpur: Firemen rescued two families including a 2-month-old baby from their houses submerged under floodwater in Bari block of the district.
With the water level of Brahmani river constantly rising, the local administration had warned of the possibility of flood and advised the people living in low land to move to high land earlier. The two families did not move out of their houses because of children including the two-month-old baby with them, sources said.
When the floodwater of Brahmani entered their village, the two families climbed to the roof to take shelter. After they informed the fire station that they were surrounded by floodwater, the firemen arrived at the spot and rescued the families including the baby.
The sources said the two families have been shifted to a safer place where warm clothes and food have been provided to them.
“We have mobilised seven teams from Jajpur and four teams from other states to be engaged in rescue operation in the district,” said Sukant Sethi, Chief Fire Officer.
“We have also deployed teams in Jagatsinghpur as well as Puri which are the next most likely districts to be affected by the flood,” he added.
