First Coronavirus Death In India!

Srinagar: A 76-year-old man, who recently returned from Iran after a pilgrimage, died at Sonam Narboo hospital in Leh town of Ladakh region due to suspected coronavirus (COVID-19) infection on Sunday.

The former policeman was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night after he showed symptoms associated with COVID-19.

Since he had a history of other medical conditions, the authorities are waiting for final test results to declare if he was indeed affected by coronavirus, a report publish in the NDTV said.

“The deceased was being treated for severe ailment involving his pancreas and other vital organs. We have sent the samples of the deceased for coronavirus test and the results are still awaited,” said the superintendent of the hospital.

Dr Motip Dorjay, a health official in Leh, told news agency ANI, “He had a urinary tract infection due to which he died. He had some past history also. So to be more cautious, we have sent his samples to Delhi. We are in touch with Delhi team and the report should be out in two days.”

Meanwhile, the authorities have sealed a village in Leh district and closed all schools and colleges in Ladakh till March 31 as a precautionary measure.
