Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area formed over the eastcentral and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on Friday morning, building upon the cyclonic circulation that persisted over the region.
According to updates from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is expected to linger over the same area before intensifying into a depression by Saturday. Following this, it is projected to track in a west-northwestward direction, strengthening further into a deep depression by October 25, and evolving into a cyclonic storm over the westcentral Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 26.
Forecasters indicate that the intensifying system will continue moving west-northwestwards, potentially heading towards the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha over the subsequent couple of days.
If the developing system reaches cyclonic storm intensity, it will be named Arnab (ARNAB), as indicated in the report.
As a result of this brewing system, which is the first post-monsoon cyclone, Odisha may experience widespread rainfall activity starting around October 27, bringing heavy downpours to several districts across the region for two to three days.
