Bhubaneswar: He had recovered and tested negative coronavirus but was still undergoing treatment at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, for other ailments. The Patient 5, the first COVID-19 case from Surya Nagar in Bhubaneswar, was finally discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.
According to official sources, the 60-year-old was admitted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar on March 31 in a critical condition with history of asthma, diabetes mellitus and hypertension and suspected symptoms of COVID -19. He tested positive for the virus on April 1.
The patient was kept in COVID isolation ward on ventilator at the time of initial admission and later shifted to COVID ward.
He then tested negative twice for COVID-19 on April 6 and 8. However, his condition kept on fluctuating and he was provided higher antibiotics and ICU-level monitoring. The patient was on ventilator up to April 18. He recovered from the ailments and was discharged from the hospital on May 5, the sources added.
