Cuttack: A fishmonger turned messiah for two girls, whom he rescued while they were being swept away in Taladanda canal near Matrubhaban School here on Saturday afternoon.
According to sources, three girls drowned while frolicking in the water body. They were spotted by the fishmonger, who immediately rushed to their aid. While he managed to rescue two girls, one was untraceable.
He regretted having not been able to rescue the other girl.
On being informed police and fire personnel reached the spot along with ODRAF team and started rescue operation. Till last reports came in, the search operation was still underway.
