FIVB Congress: Achyuta Samanta Proposes National Volleyball Academy At Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Indian Volleyball Federation president Dr Achyuta Samanta has said that the future of volleyball looks promising in India.
Dr Samanta, who is attending the 38th Congress of International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) in Arnhem, Netherlands, discussed with officials of the sport’s global body about a roadmap for substantial growth and progress of volleyball in India, and especially in Odisha.
The noted educationist also suggested some futuristic proposals for the growth of volleyball.
He proposed setting up of a National Volleyball Academy in collaboration with FIVB at KIIT and KISS University. He also proposed a National Nodal Centre for ‘Volleyball for School Programme’ at KISS.
Dr Samanta requested FIVB to organize its next World Congress in Bhubaneswar and demanded a Regional Development Centre be started in Bhubaneswar where refresher courses for volleyball coaches and technical officers be conducted for development of volleyball.
FIVB Congress, the apex meet of volleyball federations and associations from across the world, is being attended by representatives from 222 member nations. It will continue till September 25.
Samanta had courtesy calls with FIVB president Ary Graca and director-general Fabio Azevedo, as well as presidents of other national associations.
