Five Contacts Of One Omicron Patient With No Travel History Test Positive

Bengaluru: Five contacts of one of the two persons identified with Omicron strain of COVID-19, have tested positive, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) chief Gaurav Gupta told the media on Thursday.

Their samples have been sent for genome sequencing.

The 46-year-old, who is among the two found infected by the highly-mutated variant of COVID in India, works at a hospital in Bengaluru. He, however, has no travel history.

The BBMP chief further said that 218 contacts were identified and tested. Among them, three primary contacts and two secondary contacts were found positive.

According to official records released by the Bengaluru municipal corporation, the other infected, a 66-year-old man, arrived here on November 20 and left for South Africa, via Dubai. seven days later. All his 24 primary and 240 secondary contacts have tested negative.

One among the two found infected with Omicron was fully vaccinated and the second was partially vaccinated, India Today reported.
