Bhadrak/ Malkangiri: A complaint was filed in Bhadrak on Sunday for disrespect to the Tricolour on the occasion of the celebration of the 74th Independence Day. The incident was reported from the Aranda panchayat office under Basudevpur block here.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, it had been directed to celebrate Independence Day with few people. Following the order, some people reached early in the morning and hoisted the flag — but it was hoisted upside down — with deep saffron colour at the bottom.
The error was noticed soon after sarpanch Arun Kumar Mohanty did the honours. It was noticed by one Muktikanta Naik, who lodged a complaint in this regard and strongly objected to such disrespect to the National Flag.
Based on the allegation, a police complaint was filed and an investigation into the matter started.
In another incident, the flag was hoisted upside down inside a school premises at Kusumput village under the Khairaput block in Malkangiri district.
“Our National Flag is seen flying in different places, even in autorickshaws. They are not committing such error that had been committed here, it is really an embarrassing moment,” a local said.
