Flight Ops At Odisha’s Biju Patnaik Airport Affected By Global Microsoft Outage
Bhubaneswar: Worldwide Microsoft outage has affected the services at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, the major technical glitch has affected flight booking and check-ins at the BPIA.
The passengers were being provided manual support and services as the computers are not working. This has delayed flights take-offs and landing at the airport, sources added.
A passenger travelling to Bengaluru said airline staff requested him for cancelling ticket and refund fare. “I have to go and join work. We understand this is a global phenomenon, but the sudden cancellation has affected me as well as hundreds of passengers flying from Bhubaneswar,” he said.
An architect-duo travelling to Mumbai were stranded at the Bhubaneswar airport for four hours. They said that the airlines had no clue about when their flight would take off, or whether they can even fly to Mumbai today.
“All work is being done manually and the situation is really bad. We have a lot of work in pipeline, and everything has got disrupted due to this worldwide outage,” they said.
Earlier, IndiGo, through a post on X said, “Our systems are currently impacted by a Microsoft outage, which is also affecting other companies. During this time booking, check-in, access to your boarding pass, and some flights may be impacted…”
In a similar message on X, Spicejet also said, “We are currently experiencing technical challenges with our service provider, affecting online services including booking, check-in, and manage booking functionalities. As a result, we have activated manual check-in and boarding processes across airports. We kindly request passengers with upcoming travel plans to arrive at the airport earlier than usual to complete check-in at our counters…”
Air India Express stated, “Global digital infrastructure issues with cloud services are temporarily impacting operations across multiple airlines, airports and other businesses globally. As a result, our website, reservation and airport check-in systems are also impacted. Please plan your travel and keep sufficient time in hand for airport procedures. We regret the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.”
Airports across the world including the ones in America, London, Australia, Germany, the UK, the UAE and other countries were affected by this Microsoft outage. The banking services were also affected at some places in India.
