Bengaluru: Flipkart on Tuesday announced that it will slowly convert its entire delivery fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030, thereby becoming the first e-commerce company in India to do so.
It will install charging infrastructure at 1,400 supply chain premises, and i
ncentivise delivery executives for switching to EVs.
Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO, Flipkart Group, said, “As a homegrown company, we always pride ourselves in making ecommerce more inclusive, progressive and impactful for all our stakeholders, which also includes communities and the planet.”
The Indian government has set a goal of achieving 30 per cent electric mobility by 2030. The Delhi government recently announced subsidies for electric two-wheeler and car purchases up to ₹30,000 and ₹1.5 lakh respectively.
Wipro, State Bank of India (SBI) and BSES Yamuna Power too have committed to transforming their fleet into EVs through a EV100 initiative from The Climate Group. The Group has stated that corporate and leasing fleet will see more than 2.5 million zero-emission vehicles by 2030 that will save 42 million metric tonnes of CO2 equivalent to the annual emissions of 11 coal power plants.
