Flood-Like Situation In Odisha’s Balasore As Jalaka River Crosses Danger Mark
Balasore: Incessant rain triggered by depression has created a flood-like situation in Odisha’s Balasore district with the water level in the Jalaka River crossing the danger mark.
Fear of flood loomed large in Mathani and nearby areas under Basta block of the district following torrential rain.
According to official sources, the water level of Jalaka River at Mathani rose to 6.67 meters, much above the danger mark of six meters. The rise in water level is due to the heavy downpour in the upper catchment area of Rasgobindpur, Morada, Suliapada, and Chitrada.
Following alarming rise in the river water level, vast agricultural land, vegetables, and standing crops are on the verge of getting submerged, sparking worries among the farmers in the area.
As a precautionary measure, officials of the Water Resources department swung into action to prevent any major breach in the river embankment. They are constantly monitoring the situation and taking steps for putting sand bags at weak and vulnerable points on the river embankment.
