Food And Drinks To Avoid If You Are Recovering From COVID-19
New Delhi: UK’s National Health Service (NHS) has said that people who have recently recovered from COVID-19 need to incorporate more proteins, vitamins and minerals in their diet to get back their strength and boost immune system.
NHS also warned that people who are recuperating from the deadly infection must strictly avoid junk food and beverages including pizza, burger, aerated drinks, etc.
Junk food and aerated drinks will weaken the immune system further and slow down the process of recovery. Thus, people must avoid the above mentioned food items after testing COVID-19 negative.
The NHS team has suggested the following food and drinks that will help a person recover quickly:
- Protein-rich diet: Protein is the powerhouse of energy. A protein-rich diet will boost the immune system and repair damaged tissues, and muscles. Pulses, legumes, peanuts, milk, yogurt, cheese, soy, eggs, fish, and chicken are protein rich food items.
- Nutrient-laden food: A weak body needs sufficient amounts of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to recover soon. A recovering person must include fresh and seasonal fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds in their diet.
- Increase calorie intake: After getting infected with COVID-19 virus, one needs more calories to get their energy levels back. Including rice, potatoes, bread, pasta, whole grains, and cereals in the diet can work wonders.
- Stay Hydrated: A COVID-19 patient loses lots of fluids due to infection and fever. One must drink nearly 8-10 glass of water every day, including soups, broths, herbal teas, kadha and non-caffeinated drinks.
