For First Time, India Logs 40,000 Plus Corona Cases In Single Day
New Delhi: With an overnight addition of 40,425 positive cases, India’s COVID-19 tally surged past the 11-lakh mark to 11,18,043 on Monday.
This was for the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak that India recorded a single-day spike of over 40,000 cases.
Besides, 681 fatalities in the last 24 hours took the country’s coronavirus toll to 27,497, the Union Health Ministry informed.
Also on Sunday, India registered the lowest COVID-19 fatality rate below 2.5 per cent in the world, the ministry said. India’s death per million population remains 20 while the world average is 78.
On a positive note, the number of recovered cases (7,00,086) have surpassed active cases by 3,09,627. However, the country’s recovery rate fell to 62.6 per cent.
India’s tests per million population crossed 10,000 mark with a total 1262 labs, including 373 in the private sector, testing COVID-19 samples. According to ICMR, 1,40,47,908 COVID-19 samples were tested, including 2,56,059 on Sunday.
Maharashtra remained the worst-hit state with 3,10,455 active COVID cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (1,70,693 ) and Delhi (1,22,793). Here are the top 12 COVID-hit states with more than 25,000 confirmed cases:
At present, India accounts for 33 per cent of total cases in Asia.
