Berhampur: A woman died shortly after allegedly being forced to get off a bus midway near Shani Temple along NH-16 in Odisha’s Ganjam district while returning home from AIIMS-Bhubaneswar.

The deceased identified as Runu Swain (47) was a native of Padmatola village under Patapur block.

According to sources, Runu Swain decided to return home after a slight improvement in her condition following treatment at the premier medical institute in Odisha capital. She boarded a bus to her village with her son on Thursday but her condition deteriorated on the way.

The repeated plea of the son to the driver, helper and passengers to take her to a nearby health facility went unheard and bus employees forced the woman-son duo to get off the vehicle in the middle of the road.

Her condition deteriorated further and she passed away on the road.

On being informed, Ganjam police rushed to the spot and arranged an ambulance to take the body of the deceased to her village for last rites.
