Foreign Liquor Worth Rs 25 Lakh Seized In Odisha’s Ganjam During Pre-Poll Crackdown
Berhampur: Police seized a huge quantity of foreign liquor worth over Rs 25 lakh at a check gate in Odisha’s Ganjam district while strictly enforcing the model code of conduct for the upcoming elections.
The liquor was seized at the border check gate while being transported illegally to Andhra Pradesh from Odisha.
A total of 6 Border Check Posts (BCP) were identified and made functional along the important Odisha-AP border areas. 24 x 7 vehicle checking being conducted at the BCPs.
Marine Police team during checking found a pick-up van coming suspiciously and while checking it was found that 1053 litres of foreign liquor was being transported illegally by one accused towards Andhra Pradesh was detected on March 20. Based upon the interrogation of the accused detained at Marine PS more seizures were made from a locked house at Village Rameya Patna under Golanthara PS by a team lead by SDPO Sadar Subhrahshu Parida.
Police arrested P. Gopi of Pati Sonapur village under Marine PS limits and forwarded him to court on March 21. Efforts are continuing to arrest another accused person involved in this case. Further investigation is going on to arrest the other accused persons involved in the racket, police said.
