Chennai: Cricketers’ affair with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continues with former India leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan joining the saffron party here on Wednesday.
Assembly election in Tamil Nadu is due next year.
Gautam Gambhir, another ex-Team India cricketer, contested in the 2019 general elections on a BJP ticket and won from East Delhi constituency.
There is also speculation that former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly might take the plunge in politics by joining the BJP. He was seen with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a function in Delhi on Monday. West Bengal, too, is headed for polls next year.
Siva, as he is known in the cricketing world, made his Test debut at the age of 17. He bagged 26 wickets in nine Test matches, as well as 15 wickets in ODIs. He is a familiar name and face in cricket commentary.
