Bhubaneswar: Days after raid by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), BJD leader and former Odisha minister Prafulla Samal’s son Prayaskanti has resigned as president of the Barapada School of Engineering and Technology (BSET) society.
As per information, Prayaskanti stepped down from the post close on the heels of ED crackdown. Officials of the central agency had conducted searches at ten locations in Bhadrak and Bhubaneswar in connection with the alleged engineering college land scam case.
ED officials had also interrogated both Prayaskanti and his father Prafulla Samal, BJD MLA from Bhandaripokhari in Bhadrak district.
As per reports, the raids were carried out following allegations of largescale financial irregularities at Barapada Engineering College in Bhadrak. It may be noted here that there had been protests by people earlier in Bhadrak over the same issue of financial irregularities in the college.
The protestors also demanded the resignation of Prayaskanti. The district administration had subsequently clamped prohibitory orders around the college campus to prevent any untoward incident.
“Recent circumstances and challenges have shown that new leadership and fresh perspectives are required to navigate the demands of the current situation. I believe that my resignation is in the best interest of the society and its members,” Prayaskanti wrote in his resignation letter.
