Former Samajwadi Party Leader Amar Singh Passes Away In Singapore
New Delhi: Former Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh passed away in Singapore on Saturday. He was 64 and had been undergoing treatment in Singapore for several months.
Amar, who suffered kidney failure in 2013, was once a close confidante of SP heavyweight and one-time Union defence minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The two then parted ways and Amar resigned from the SP on January 6, 2010. He and his protege, actress Jaya Prada, were expelled from the Samajwadi Party in February 2010 for ‘anti-party activities’.
Amar, who had a love-hate relationship with Amitabh Bachchan and his family, then floated his own outfit.
Earlier on Saturday, Amar posted a tribute to freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his death anniversary on Twitter and also wished Eid Al-Adha to his followers.
